Afari residents impound articulated truck

Afari (Ash), Aug 30, GNA - Residents of Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District at the weekend impounded an articulated truck loaded with 'wawa' boards for destroying some electric cables and poles in the town.

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Bright Amoako said at midnight on Saturday an unusual loud noise was heard resulting in a blackout in the town.

He said a truck that was being chased by a combined team of military and Forest Services Division task force had struck electric cables forcing the poles to go down.

Chief Inspector Amoako said the occupants of the truck escaped from the scene but came back later to plead for the release of the truck.

The youth of the town deflated the tyres of the vehicle and guarded it until the next morning.

Later when forestry personnel arrived at the scene to demand documents covering the boards, it was found that they were illegally harvested.
