Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome/Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Monday, put smiles on the faces of over 1,000 widows by dinning with them at an event held in her constituency.

Adwoa Safo who is also the Minister of State in charge of Procurement, also distributed half pieces of cloth to each of the over 1,000 widows that graced the occasion.

The deputy Majority Leader commenting on the gesture told journalists that her motivation stemmed from her understanding of the challenges widows go through when their husbands kick the bucket.

“Having practiced law for over ten years now, I know the challenges women go through when their husbands die. Sometimes in accessing the properties of their late husband even becomes a challenge and they have to go up and down through the courts to get justice. Some also even find it difficult to make ends meet. So, on a day [May Day] like this, I decided to share with them what God has blessed me with,” she noted.

The legislator, commenting further announced plans to register all the widows who were over 1,000 onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them have access to quality health care.

She used the occasion to appeal to well-endowed Ghanaians to also lend a hand to the less privileged in the society, especially, widows.

It is the third time in row the Minister of State in charge of Procurement has organized such an event for the widows in her constituency.
