The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome -Kwabenya Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Lawyer Adwoa Safo, in collaboration with Zoomlion – a waste management company – and some opinion leaders, have undertaken a clean-up exercise at all market centres in the constituency.

The constituency executives of the NPP and the youth, led by the MP and workers of Zoomlion, desilted choked gutters and cleared refuse around the Dome, Tafia and Haatso markets and their environs.

In an interview after the exercise, Ms Adwoa Safo referred to the rainy season and urged the people to help curb the incidence of floods with their attendant disasters.

She said the exercise was an ongoing programme to help reduce some of the sanitation-related diseases which are sometimes caused by the people themselves. Daniel Ohene, a staff from Zoomlion, expressed worry about the persistent disposal of refuse by residents into drains and appealed to them to desist from that habit so as to ensure environmental cleanliness.

He said the laws on environmental cleanliness should be enforced to the letter to change the attitude of the people.
