The Director General of the Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET), Dr Eric Adzroe, has urged graduates of the technical and vocational training programmes to constantly improve upon their skills by adopting new technologies required to firmly establish themselves in the career job market.
“Know that your chosen trades are now highly dynamic and constantly evolving. To remain relevant and competitive, therefore, you must keep upgrading your skills, continue learning, take short courses and adopt new technologies”, he emphasized.
Dr Eric Adzroe was speaking at Ho, the Volta Regional capital, during the graduation ceremony for 44 students of the Evangelical Presbyterian Hoffman Memorial Vocational Institute.
The institute was established as E.P. Activity Centre in 1997 through the initiative of Mrs Brigitte Hoffman, a German citizen.
Dr Adzroe encouraged graduates of TVET to take advantage of the government’s newly introduced programmes, such as the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) and the TVET Qualification Frame (TQF) to enhance their proficiency in employable skills and promote their economic independence.
He lauded the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, in complementing the government’s skills training programmes aimed at contributing to youth unemployment in the country.
The Principal of E.P. Hoffman Memorial Vocational Institute, Rita Etornam Ahadzi, disclosed that the Institute has been granted accreditation to offer NVTI Certificate 1 and 2 in addition to Proficiency One and Two, adding that since 1998, the institute has trained more than 700 graduates in various vocations.
She said the institute has well-furnished classrooms, training workshops with equipment and hostel facilities to meet the demands of the students, and therefore encouraged young people who have completed Junior High School to opt for vocational and technical skills training.
The Chairman of the Governing Board of Hoffman Memorial Vocational Institute, Mr Foster Agotse, urged the student trainees to be guided by socio-moral values of integrity, discipline, diligence and creativity in their quest for attainment of professional academic excellence.
