Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has called on city authorities in Africa to adopt a vision of commitment to advance the cause of humanity.

He said Africa had an obligation to deliver basic services to the people irrespective of their circumstances.

Dr Vanderjuije made the call in a statement issued by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on Thursday.

He was addressing the Second Africa Urban Infrastructure Investment Forum in Luanda, Angola on the theme: “Innovative Solution to Bridge the Urban Infrastructure Gap.”

The forum would propose concrete steps to be taken to maximise the effectiveness of urban infrastructure development in Africa.

Dr Vanderpuije called on the city authorities in Africa to also lay special emphasis on educational infrastructure and bridge the development gap to ensure decent living for all.

Alhaji Mohammed Doku, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North, according to the statement, had been shortlisted to pick an award at the forum for his hard work in transforming the lives of the people in his municipality.

Other larger cities shortlisted are Accra, Cape Town and Dakar, while the small towns are Asunafo North in Ghana, Praia of Cape Verde and Bagante in Cameroon.
