Adequate security during burial of Ya_Na

Yendi (N/R), April 4 GNA - The Yendi District Security Committee (DISEC) has assured the Heads of Department and the entire people of Yendi that the Government would provide adequate security during the burial of the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II on April 10, 2006 at Yendi. The District Chief Executive Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani gave the assurance in a speech read on his behalf when the Yendi DISEC members met Heads of Government Departments at Yendi to brief them about the security situation in the area.

Alhaji Tijani appealed to the workers to continue with their normal duties during the period, and said the place was peaceful and there was the need to maintain the peace existing in the area.

The District Coordinating Director Alhaji Mohammed Asibi Azonko said the Government and international organisations were much concern about the occasion and appealed to the public to cooperate with the security agencies during the period.

The Second-In-Command of the Military Detachment based in Yendi, Lt. Emmanuel Odoom Essilfie expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the DISEC in organising a meeting with the Heads of Department. Lt. Essilfie reminded the people that the peace existing in the District was not only through the efforts of the security but was attained with the collaboration of the workers and the people in the area.

He said as Heads of Departments and in the process of discharging their duties they should also educate their workers and the people in the area about the importance of peace during the burial. He said the Military was fully prepared to provide adequate security and urged the Heads of Departments to inform the security whenever they came across any information that was sensitive.

The Yendi District Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Antwi Basiako said the people of Yendi were about to make history by burying Ya-Na Yakubu Andani. ASP Antwi reminded the people that security was very expensive and it was necessary to maintain the peace. He said there would be more than seven hundred Policemen both in uniform and plain clothes. He said the security would erect barriers at all roads leading to Yendi.

He warned that anybody arrested for creating problem during the burial would have himself or herself to blame. He warned the people not to attempt to engage the security on unnecessary confrontation saying that there would be enough security at all the vantage points to protect lives and property. 4 April 06
