Acting IGP visits Tamale

Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh

The Acting Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, James Oppong Boanuh is in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale today.

This is his first official visit outside Accra since he took over from the former IGP, David Asante Apeatu who was relieved of his post by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

He is to interact with officers of the Northern Regional Command as part of his transformational leadership skills.

His delegation includes, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, George Alex Mensa, Edward Tabiriz, George Tweneboah, Michael Adjei, Mohammed Abdul Hanan and Bawah Abdul Jalil, an Instructor at the National Police Training School, Tesano-Accra.

The Acting IGP is in the area at a time a female police officer, Agartha Nana Nabin was recently murdered by suspected Armed Robbers on the Kumbungu road.

The sad incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night, July 30 when the deceased and her colleague were on duty at a checkpoint near the Star Oil Filing Station.

Appointment

As the then Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh was on July 22, 2019 appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Acting Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.

This was confirmed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin in a signed statement.

Some security Analysts have impressed upon the President to appoint a substantive IGP.

A Commissioner of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare's name is in the lead of potential IGPs within the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service.
