Achinakrom SHS gets new Board of Governors

The re-constituted Board of Governors for the Achinakrom Senior High School (SHS) in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality have been inaugurated with a call on it not to do anything that could put it on a collision course with the school’s head.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Sarfo Kantanka, said it should neither usurp the day-to-day administration, nor remotely attempt to dictate to the headmistress.

It must rather focus efforts on helping to efficiently manage the institution to enhance academic performance.

The 13-member Board with a three-year tenure has Mr Kwabena Boakye-Antwi, a Pharmacist, as its Chairman.

Mr Sarfo Kantanka urged them to carefully scrutinize the activities of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and to block the charging of unauthorized fees to ease pressure on parents.

He again encouraged the Board to make sure that both students and teachers, upheld the value of discipline, saying, it should not hesitate to act firmly to enforce discipline.

He said his expectation was that the members would work diligently to make the school environment academically friendly.

The Regional Director used the occasion to counsel the students to use the appropriate channels to address anything they might not be happy about, but not with violence.

Mrs. Mary Cromwell Owusu, the Headmistress, complained about inadequate structures, mentioning among these, the lack of dormitories, computer and science laboratories, and accommodation for teachers.

She rallied the stakeholders to work together to tackle those problems, as the Board Chairman vowed they would not disappoint the school.
