Accept challenges and help solve them in the country- Okine

Kumasi, Aug 8, GNA- Mr Abraham Tetteh Djan Okine, General Secretary of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), on Friday called on workers to accept the challenges facing the country and work hard to accelerate the pace of development.

He also appealed to members to change their attitude towards the Union, have a new focus and renew their commitment to it so that together they can build the union into a formidable and dynamic one. Mr Okine was addressing the opening of a two-day Ashanti Regional quadrennial delegates conference of the Union in Kumasi.

The 120 delegates attending the conference will review the activities over the past four years, examine the role of the union and plan for the next four years.

He assured members that every little effort they put in the work of the union would be greatly appreciated and added that it was only through their collective responsibility that can change the fortunes of the Union.

Mr Okine asked workers to lead morally decent lives so that they did not contract the deadly HIV/AIDS.

He said the nation and the union needed them for more productive work and must, therefore, stay alive and not lead reckless lives. Mr Albert Kwame Brew, Assistant Chief Industrial Relations Officer of the Union for Ashanti, called for vigorous efforts towards membership drive.

Miss Georgina Opoku, Ashanti Regional Chairperson of the Union, asked members to contribute their quota at their workplaces to the development and survival of the union.
