The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Abuakwa South Constituency, Alhaji Sanusi Mohammed, has strongly dismissed allegations suggesting that his son is involved in illegal mining activities.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Alhaji Sanusi clarified that the allegations, which stem from a viral video and comments made by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) before a Parliamentary Select Committee, are “baseless and unfounded.”

According to him, the MCE’s visit to his son’s mining site was a legitimate exercise aimed at sending a strong signal to miners about the government’s commitment to the fight against illegal mining.

He, however, expressed concern over how sections of the media, social media commentators, and some opposition elements have twisted the matter to imply wrongdoing.

“It is worrying that people have rushed to conclude without evidence. Even more so because the MCE never stated anywhere in his submission that my son is engaged in illegal mining,” Alhaji Sanusi said.

He further stressed that his son is a licensed gold merchant, operating legally and transparently within the laws governing the mining sector.

“My son’s reputation and business integrity will not be destroyed by speculation or political propaganda,” he added. “Any attempt to tarnish my hard-earned reputation by dragging my son’s name into the mud will not succeed.”

The Abuakwa South NDC Chairman reaffirmed his support for lawful mining operations and called on the public to disregard the false claims circulating in the media.
