About 22,450 registered candidates in Kumasi are writing 2008 BECE

Kumasi, April 19, GNA - About 22,450 registered candidates from 358 Junior High Schools (JHS) in Kumasi metropolis are writing the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which starts on Monday, April 21.

Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, who disclosed this to the media in Kumasi, said out of the number, 106 are re-sitters.

He said 83 examination centres in 29 selected educational institutions have been identified and selected for the examination. Mr. Onyinah revealed that Saint Louis Demonstration JHS registered the highest number of 308 candidates while Heroes International JHS registered the lowest number of two candidates. He said the examination was being handled by 83 supervisors with 163 assistants and 789 invigilators.

In addition, 55 officers from the education directorate will monitor the conduct of the examination and 11 other officers will distribute the question papers at the various centres.
