ASECOSA 1986 year group donates to alma mater, great ASEC

The 1986 Year Group of Old Students of Asuom Senior High School (ASECOSA) has presented 20 Flat screen Desktop Computers, 12 Ceiling fans, 2 HP Multi-Purpose Printers and their accessories; valued at GHC15,000 to the authorities and students of the School (GREAT ASEC) at a colourful and nostalgic ceremony on Friday, 1st July, 2016 at the School’s Assembly Hall, at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region.

The presentation forms part of activities to commemorate 30 years of exiting the walls of Great ASEC by the 1986 year group.

In a brief address, the leader of the 1986 Year Group, Mr. Richard Gyasi-Dankyira, who was the Head Prefect at the time, said:

“Our motivation for this gesture, apart from giving back to our Alma Mater, is three-fold. Firstly, that through this donation, students will gain a valuable asset, which is quality education; especially in this age of advancement in ICT.

Secondly, we want to become trail blazers and challenge other year groups to emulate and resolve to support the school on rotational basis, year after year from next year, 2017.

Finally, to send a clear message to all old students of this great school about the need to come together to form a much stronger association that will take a center stage in shaping the future and continued development of our Alma mater”.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Headmaster, Mr. Christian Attram-Gyeketey, thanked the old students association for the unflinching support, and the 1986 year group in particular for their kind gesture and assured that the items will be put to good use.

The Vice President of ASECOSA, Mr. Mark Appiah-Brako Jnr., speaking on behalf of the Old Students’ Association, highlighted key projects that the association has embarked upon over the years to create a congenial atmosphere for effective teaching and learning in ASEC.

Among them was the general renovation works, fixing of louvre blades in the classroom blocks, purchase of tables and chairs for the school’s dining hall and the purchase of a 50kva power generating plant for the school.

The ceremony was attended by members of the 1986 year group including Mr. Samuel Ayim Ankomah who was the Assistant School Prefect and Mrs. Evelyn Agyenim-Boateng who was the Girls’ Prefect, among other classmates.

Also present were, Mrs. Helena Adu Gyamfi – Leader of the 1984 year group, members of the 1992 year group, Mr. Michael Obiri-Yeboah of the 2005 year group, Mr. Maxwell Atuanor Dwirah, who was the Head Prefect of the 1993 year group, and also the current President of Asuom Youth Association, other members of ASECOSA, Students of ASEC, Teachers and some members of the school’s Board of Governors.

The old students held a general meeting immediately after the presentation select steering committee members to oversee the planning and other preparations for 2018 Golden Jubilee Homecoming to mark 50th Anniversary of the existence of Asuom Senior High School.
