AMA announces clean-up exercise on March 3

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has said there would a massive clean-up exercise in all of its 10 sub-metros on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

The exercise forms part of the National Sanitation Campaign Day. It called on shops, markets and other commercial activities to halt all activities and remain closed between 0600 hours and 1000 hours.

It also called on residents, departments and agencies, corporate organisations, markets, drivers, opinion leaders, traditional authorities, teachers, students and pupils to come out with their cleansing tools to clean their respect communities, places of work, homes and surroundings.

This was announced in a statement signed by Sam Ayeh-Datey, the AMA Metro Co-ordinating Director and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday. The statement said there would be a vigorous enforcement of the AMA (Environmental Sanitation Day) Bye-laws, 1995.

The bye-laws further directs transport operators to “undertake a general cleaning of all lorry parks and bus stations” with minimum movement of vehicles except those of emergency and security services.

“The AMA will appreciate it if residents, traders and transport operators will seize this opportunity to clean their respective areas to assist the AMA achieve the President’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa,” the statement said.

It said Public Health Officers (Saman Saman) would be visiting households and other socio-economic entities to inspect their sanitation condition and issue notices (summons) if necessary during this period
