AIDS campaign held at Akrudwa

Akrudwa No. 2 (B/A), Nov 13, GNA- Some HIV/AIDS activists, calling themselves, 'Enkaa Akyi' in Busunya Zone of the Nkoranza district have undertaken an educational campaign in six selected communities to create awareness about the pandemic among the people.

The communities were Busunya, Akrudwa Number Two, Fiema, Bomiri, Odumase and Senya.

Addressing the people at separate functions, Nana Rockson Kofi Duodu, Chairman of the organisation, emphasized that the pandemic was real and should therefore not be attributed to spiritual causes or taboos.

He said despite intensive educational campaigns about the pandemic, some people still believed that it was caused by witches.

He urged them to adhere to the formula against contracting the pandemic "since the formula is the best and surest way of preventing and guarding one's self against the pandemic".

Mr. Richard Asante, treasurer of the organisation commended the Ghana AIDS Commission for providing financial support for the campaign.

He asked the people to avoid discriminating against or stigmatizing people living with the pandemic.
