A 19-member family displaced by fire at Tema

Tema, June 05, GNA - A 19-member family at Tema Community Seven were last Friday night displaced by an intense fire that engulfed their six-bed room house. There was no casualty but all their properties including monies were burnt, a source at the Tema office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) told the GNA on Monday.

The source said though cause of the fire was not known investigations were continuing.

It said fire personnel received a report of fire outbreak in the house near Datus junction around 9.30 pm and rushed to the scene. The source said realizing that the fire was beyond their control they called for assistance from their counterparts at Tema Oil Refinery, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Nungua and Ashaiman Fire Service who together brought it under control within 20 minutes. Though the cause of the fire has not been ascertained, the source warned the public against overloading of sockets, a contributory factor to most fire outbreaks within the municipality. It said GNFS had therefore, intensified its campaign on the use of electrical gadgets in homes and offices.
