Six landlords around the Tumu Teacher Training College Residential Area in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region could be handed various jail terms for failing to provide toilet facilities in their homes.

Recently the health and the building inspectorate departments of the assembly intensified their campaign against open defecation and directed all landlords to provide the needed facilities for tenants in their homes.

But the six according to Balu Mohammed of Tumu-based Radford Fm failed to comply with the directive leading to them being hauled before the court and charged with the offence.

All six who pleaded guilty to the crime after going contrary to the building regulation act are to reappear on 15th of September 2017 to be convicted

The presiding judge of the Tumu Magistrate Court has said it is not his intention to punish the landlords but that it was their responsibility to provide toilet facilities for tenants of their houses.
