Kodie (Ash), March 6, GNA - A parade of over 850 students and pupils, fr= om 30 public and private school, was held on Sunday, at Kodie, in the Afigya-Kwabre district, to mark the 54th anniversary of Ghana's independence.

In attendance were chiefs, teachers, security agencies, departmental heads, assembly members and civil society organizations. Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the country's future depended on how well-educated and disciplined i= ts people were.

He therefore advised the youth to avoid any act likely to wreck their education.

"You must desist from drugs, alcoholism and other anti-social behavio= urs and attitudes that will render the huge expenses incurred by your parents and the state on your education wasteful."

Mr Ignatius Mwinbe-Er Der, the District Education Director urged the teachers to reflect on the key words of the theme for the celebration, "Discipline and hard work, an essential pre-requisite for national development" and renew their commitment to duty.

He warned that the directorate would no longer tolerate indecent and provocative dressing among either teachers or students. He said they would ensure that indiscipline and other negative acts, unhelpful to quality teaching and learning ended.
