500 youth to be employed in Upper Denkyira District

Dunkwa-On-Offin, Sept. 8, GNA - Mr. Richard Anane Adabor, District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira District Assembly (UDDA) on Thursday announced that 500 youths would be offered jobs in the district under the first phase of the youth employment and job creation programme.

He said so far, about 209 youths have been registered for employment as teachers to fill vacancies in schools in the district and that 25 would also be employed under the sanitation and waste management component of the programme.

The DCE made the announcement at a meeting to dissolve the UDDA to pave way for the election of new assembly members this month. Mr Adabor said the programme was in line with government's policy on job creation and that it was under the auspices of the Ministry of Manpower Development Youth and Employment.

Commenting on security in the district, he said there had been peace and it was achieved through the support of assembly members and the district security despite some reported cases of armed robbery on some of the major roads.

The DCE said the District has been adjudged the cleanest in the Central Region by the Regional Environmental Health Department and has therefore been selected to host this year's Regional Environmental Health week.

He said in recognition of the tremendous contribution to the achievement of the assembly members during their term of office, an amount of 1.5 million cedis has been recommended as ex-gratia award to each member.
