43 to contest NPP Parliamentary Primaries in Northern Region

Tamale, Sept. 29, GNA- Forty-three persons including five women have filed their nominations to contest the Parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 17 constituencies in the Northern Region.

Mr Abubakari Sadiq, Acting Regional Secretary of the Party told the sitting NPP Members of Parliament and an Independent candidate, to be contested for in June, next year.

The five constituencies where there are sitting NPP MPs are: Bimbilla, Wulensi Yendi, Gukpegu/Sabonjida, Damongo/Daboya while Salaga has an Independent MP.

Mr Iddrisu Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive is contesting the Tolon slot with Alhassan Sulemana, a businessman, while Mr Amadu Kaleem, a businessman and one other candidate have filed for the Kumbungu constituency.

Four candidates, Prince Alhassan Baako Yakubu, a United States- based businessman, Mr Mahama Negin Kwesi Samuel, a teacher, Mr Sulemana Abu, a GBC broadcaster in Accra, Mr Iddisa Kojo Jacob, a teacher, are vying for the Mion-Sang constituency.

At the Sawla-Kalba constituency four other candidates have filed their nominations to contest for the slot while Alhaji Sulemana Achanso, the Bole DCE, Ahmed Ewura, an enginner with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Elizabeth Salamatu, a teacher, are gunning for Bole-Bamboi with four others.

Six candidates are standing unopposed. They are: Madam Rita Tani Iddi, the DCE for Gushegu-Karaga, Gushegu/Karaga constituency, Hajia Alima Mahama, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and President's Special Initiatives, for the Gambaga-Nalerigu constituency and Mr Sulemana Nabilla, Headmaster of Walewale Secondary School, Walewale constituency. The rest are: Mr Jabah J. Bennam, Deputy Minister, Manpower Development and Employment Zabzugu/Tatale constituency, Mr Adam Mohamed Amin (ANTA), Ministry of Mines and Energy, Choggu-Tishigu constituency and Mr Abdel-Karim Iddris, a businessman, Nanton constituency.

At Saboba, Mr Yaja Samson, a Social Worker would struggle it out with Mr Charles Bintim, Deputy Northern Regional Minister. Nana J.K. Brukum, a lecturer at Legon, Dr Albert Kofi Bow, a medical doctor and one other, are contesting at Kpandai.

At Savelugu, Mr Ramadam Mohammed Mutala, President of the Ghana-Italy Chambers of Commerce, Mr Abdul-Somed M. Gunu, a Social Development Worker, Mr Salifu Nantogma Alhassan, a lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS) and Mr Abukari Abdulai, a United States-based Legal Practitioner, would sort it out. Mr Abukari Gariba, former PNC National Organiser, Dr Baawa Mashie, a medical doctor, Mr Ibrahim Nambiema, a teacher, Mr Yahaya Mahamoud, a Social Development Worker and one other are contesting the Chereponi seat.

Mr Dubik Yakubu, a legal practitioner, Mr Joseph Mamelimba, a teacher and Miss Elizabeth Poyari also a teacher and one other contestant would contest the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo seat. 29 Sept. 03
