2007 National Best Farmer urges entrepreneurs to be honest

Bawiesibai(UWR), March 26, GNA - The 2007 National Best Farmers, Alhaji Abdul Salam Akati has advised entrepreneurs to be discipline and honest in their dealings with their employees and clients. He also urged them to service their loans regularly and eschew overspending and self-aggrandisement.

Alhaji Akati was speaking on: "Progress and Advancement of Businesses" at the 5th Annual General Meeting of the Bawiesibai Youth and Development Association at Bawiesibai in the Sissala East District on Monday.

He called on entrepreneurs who had established their industries in the rural areas to avoid cheating the farmers who produce raw materials for them but to give them good prices to encourage them to produce more to feed the industries.

The 2007 National Best Farmer advised successful entrepreneurs not to forget their hometowns, saying: "The best thing every human being can do for his or her people is to bring development to the doorsteps of the people".

Alhaji Akati warned peasant farmers in the area who had taken loans from the banks to expand their farms not to divert such money to marry new wives, a practice most farmers were noted for.

He also warned women who had benefited from the micro-credit facilities not to give the money to their husbands as a sign of showing love to them.

"Poverty would always be our lot if we continue with such practices", he said. Alhaji Akati who has passion for football presented footballs, jerseys, football boots and a cup valued at 45,000 Ghana cedis to the under 12 football teams from Bawiesibai, Nabulo and Kundungu. The three teams competed for the cup and Bawiesibai beat Nabulo 4-2 on penalties to win the cup.
