200 Chinese university to offer scholarships for Ghanaian students annually

Eight top Chinese Universities, led by Wenzhou University, have agreed to collaborate with the Ghana Embassy in Beijing and Study In China Admission Systems (SICAS) to offer 1000 University places, of which 200 will be full scholarships, to Ghanaian students annually to undertake various under-graduate and post graduate programmes.

Ghana's Deputy Ambassador to China, Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, announced this generous Chinese offer to GhanaPoliticsonline.com after working visits to both Wenzhou University, in Wenzhou and the Head Office of SICAS in Qingdao.

He indicated that the offer is in line with the Embassy's new education policy to approach top Chinese universities to expand their 'internationalisation drive' to benefit more Ghanaians.

The Embassy's approach is an attempt to align its efforts with "the access to education for all" policy launched by President Mahama's government a couple of years ago.

"However, to ensure effective and seamless alignment to this great policy of the current administration of Ghana, I would like to urge top Chinese universities to set up campuses in various regions of Ghana to help more Ghanaian students gain access to higher education. " Mr. Ankrah requested.

The President of Wenzhou University, Professor Li Xiaokun, promised the Deputy Ambassador of his University's commitment to this new initiative, which has seen top Chinese Universities and SICAS collaborating with the Ghanaian Embassy in Beijing for the first time.

Miss Zhang Lu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SICAS welcomed the involvement of Ghana's Embassy in Beijing and expressed her optimism of a successful collaboration.
