A 17-year-old girl, Khadija (not her real name), who was allegedly forcefully handcuffed and raped by a police officer in Guabulga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, is seeking justice.
The incident occurred on November 23, 2025, when Khadija travelled from Nabari to Walewale and was returning late in the evening.
In an interview with GhanaWeb correspondent in the region, she stated that the police officer offered her a lift near the Walewale sports stadium.
According to Khadija, the officer convinced her he would take her to Guabulga to change his uniform and collect some documents before sending her to Wulugu, where she planned to spend the night with a relative.
Instead, he took her to his room, handcuffed her and raped her without protection.
"I met this policeman at the Walewale sports stadium... he asked me where I was heading to, I told him I was going to Wulugu and he said he was working on the Kpasenkpe road (on patrols), so he would send me to Wulugu. He picked me up and turned towards Guabulga," Khadija narrated.
"He sent me there, handcuffed me in the room and raped me. Immediately I entered the room, he locked the door and tried to have sex with me and I refused. That is when he beat me up, handcuffed me and raped me," she added.
Khadija wants justice and for herself, saying that the police officer, identified as Baako, should be jailed.
"I ran out of the room. Two boys rescued me. I want justice. I am feeling pain, and I want the case to go to court. I want the police officer to be jailed," she said.
She said she has been uncomfortable around her colleagues after the abuse and urges authorities, including the North East Regional Police Command and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), not to shield the officer.
However, when our North East Regional Reporter, Dokurugu Alhassan reached out to DCOP Shaibu Osei, the North East Regional Police Commander, he said, "We will not shield him just because he is a police officer."
He said the case is under investigation and that the law will take its course.
