Government is watching us die - musicians

Musicians Forum is a platform of musicians across the country and are made up of members from various musicians’ bodies and has consented to say it has become very pathetic to continue to behold the disastrous effects the COVID 19 has brought to all engines of the economy.

Infact we musicians are no exception to the highly affected groups in the economic system.

It is evident almost all musicians and performers mostly depend on shows, funerals, weddings, conferences among other ceremonies and functions for a living and survival.

And it has become very disheartening that as entertainers, although we understand the enormity of the negative impact of this pandemic to our economy, government could have even brought out clear roadmap of interventions, rescue, support and recovery plans for our industry in times like these.

Musicians are left wandering and pondering over sustainability of their livelihood without even not knowing when ban on social gathering and functions will be released and even when it will be released and even when it will be conducive for musicians to perform at ceremonies.

Government has supported some small business to revive them and keep them running and it’s a good move though, but we feel it is high time His excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo government wake up to this clarion call and come to the rescue the plight of most musicians who are now finding it difficult to sustain themselves and their families in this COVID 19 period.

We also entreat the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Arts to be innovative and proactive enough in abnormal times like this and act swiftly and spearhead a stimulus or support package for musicians whom has always keep the country entertaining across all the years ago.

We do also ask corporate bodies, philanthropist, organizations and individuals who has also been working in collaboration with the music and entertainment industry to come to the aid of musicians to ensure that we save our industry as we fight along to see to the end of COVID 19.

We believe that this appeal and call will reach out to all to play our part to help keep Ghana Music.
