Hundreds of residents from Nungua and surrounding communities took part in this year's free health screening organised by Danpong Healthcare.

The exercise, part of the Danpong Cares corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, allows the company to give back to the community that has hosted it for decades.

The outreach, organised in partnership with East Cantonment Pharmacy Limited and the Municipal Assembly, aimed to bring basic healthcare services closer to residents, promote health awareness, and encourage early detection and timely medical care.

Health Screening

Over the years, the free screening has become an event the community looks forward to, and this year was no exception.

Hundreds of people arrived early at the Danpong Pharmacy in Nungua Kantamanto for the exercise, which covered general medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and malaria and hepatitis B testing. Free breast cancer screening was also a key component, with more than 74 women screened.

The screening was designed to promote preventive healthcare by encouraging residents to go for regular check-ups. Free medicines were also provided to beneficiaries, with East Cantonment Pharmacy Limited and the Municipal Assembly supporting the exercise with medicines and other resources.

Medical Support, Treatment and Giveaways

A doctor and a pharmacist were available throughout the outreach to offer medical counselling and guidance based on participants' screening results.

As part of malaria prevention efforts, 140 insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed to residents, and 45 participants received free medication following medical assessment.

The Medical Officer with the screening team, Dr Alexander Osei-Bonsu, described this year's exercise as encouraging, noting that residents were becoming more health-conscious.

He said the company had expected between 180 and 200 residents to benefit. He added that conditions commonly identified in previous exercises included high blood pressure and blood sugar problems, and urged residents to check their health regularly rather than wait until they feel sick.

Commenting on the initiative, the PRO of Danpong Healthcare, Esther Mamle Tetteh, said it was an investment in the health of the Nungua community and a way of thanking residents for their support over the years.
"Our brand story started in Nungua, so it is a privilege for us to invest back in the community behind our story," she said.

She added that Danpong had undertaken similar activities in the past and hoped to extend the programme to more communities.
