Historic Accra Daily Mail name enters new digital chapter

Accra Daily Mail has entered a new digital chapter Accra Daily Mail has entered a new digital chapter

The Accra Daily Mail, a name with roots in Ghana's newspaper history, has entered a new chapter with the launch of a new independent digital publication focused on news, business, the economy, politics, technology, health, sports, culture and public affairs.

The new digital publication, available at theaccradailymail.com, is being published by SamBoad Publishing, a subsidiary of SamBoad Business Group Ltd.

The development brings the Accra Daily Mail name back into Ghana's media landscape more than a decade after the former newspaper ceased operating under the name.

The original Accra Daily Mail was established in 1998 as a privately owned English-language daily newspaper based in Accra. It became part of Ghana's private newspaper landscape during a period of significant growth in the country's independent media sector.

In January 2009, the original publication suspended its daily operations following financial difficulties. In April 2009, it was relaunched under the name The Mail, with its publication frequency changed to biweekly.

The new " The Accra Daily Mail " is an independently developed digital publication and is not a continuation of the former print newspaper operation. Instead, it represents a new digital chapter for the name, with a new editorial operation, digital platform and publishing structure.

Building a New Digital Newsroom

The present-day " The Accra Daily Mail " is being developed to serve a modern audience that increasingly consumes news through websites, search engines, mobile devices and social media.

The publication's editorial coverage includes Ghanaian news, politics and public affairs, business and the economy, companies and markets, technology, health, finance, infrastructure, energy, sports, entertainment, culture, Africa and international affairs.

Beyond daily news, the publication plans to place significant emphasis on business journalism, company and industry profiles, interviews, explainers, analysis and stories that provide context around developments affecting Ghanaian businesses, institutions and communities.

Samuel Kwame Boadu, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Accra Daily Mail, said the objective is to build a modern publication while respecting the historical significance of the name.

"We recognise that The Accra Daily Mail is a name with a history in Ghanaian journalism," Boadu said. "Our responsibility is not to recreate the newspaper of the past, but to build a credible digital newsroom for the present and the future."

He added that the new publication would focus on creating a permanent digital record of Ghana's businesses, institutions, industries, people and major developments.

"We want The Accra Daily Mail to become more than a place where people come to read today's headlines. We want it to become a useful information resource that documents Ghana's economy, businesses and society for today's readers and for the future," he said.

Published by SamBoad Publishing

The Accra Daily Mail is published by SamBoad Publishing, the publishing arm of SamBoad Business Group Ltd.

SamBoad Publishing is also associated with other digital media assets, including Accra Street Journal and The High Street Business, giving the publishing operation experience across Ghanaian news, business journalism and digital media.

Through its publishing portfolio, SamBoad Publishing is developing a network of digital publications covering different areas of Ghana's information and media landscape.

Accra Street Journal focuses on news, business, companies, lifestyle and developments across Ghana, while The High Street Business focuses primarily on business, companies, entrepreneurs, markets and the corporate environment.

The addition of The Accra Daily Mail expands the publishing portfolio into a broader digital news platform with coverage across multiple editorial categories.

A New Generation of Ghanaian Digital Publishing

The return of the Accra Daily Mail name comes at a time when Ghana's media industry continues to undergo significant changes, with audiences increasingly moving from traditional newspapers to digital platforms.

The new publication intends to combine the immediacy of digital journalism with the depth, context and permanence traditionally associated with newspaper publishing.

Its editorial strategy will include original reporting, news analysis, interviews, company profiles, industry reports, explainers, features and other forms of digital journalism.

The publication also intends to develop a strong focus on Ghanaian businesses and industries, creating an accessible record of companies, entrepreneurs, institutions and economic developments.

"The name has history, but the newsroom has a new future," Boadu said. "We believe there is an opportunity to build something that is distinctly digital, distinctly Ghanaian and useful to readers at home and abroad."
