POGA 1997 year group celebrates 25 years

Members of the 1997 year group of OLA Secondary School known as “the Rockers” among the School’s Global fraternity, brought Ho and its environs to a stand-still last weekend when it returned to the School to celebrate its 25th Anniversary on leaving the four walls of OLA where they had been equipped with the necessary values of life as young adults.

The anniversary celebrations which spanned a three day period (Friday 19th – Sunday 21st May) saw the group presenting a 75,000ghs 12-Unit ultra–modern washroom facility and 4 hand-washing basins to the school. They also gave out boxes of Hand- washing Liquid Soap and Detergents to help maintain the facility.

The group at earlier celebrations presented to the school two(2) 10,000 liters capacity POLYTANKS refurbished the Dinning Hall and also extended the School’s Kitchen.

As part of its social responsibility to the Ho community where the school is situated, POGA ‘97 was at the MADAMFO Shelter where it presented several food Items worth over 5,000ghs in addition to clothing and footwear to the Shelter housing over 44 children with ages ranging from 3years to 17years.

For Entertainments the group brought in Camidoh one of Ghana’s fast rising Afro beat Artist to perform some of his hit songs during its bonfire night held on Friday after a Career Fair earlier on in the day.

Supporting the School in celebrating its 69th Speech And Prize-Giving Day, the group presented to the school food items jointly with the 1998 year group to help in feeding the student body.

The group aside awarding deserving students in their various fields of study, also gave Awards to members of the School Management and many of its Retired Teachers who taught them when they were on campus.

Mrs. Seyram Joan Aku Folie –Asagba, President of the POGA ‘97 group whilst thanking the management of the school in her speech delivered during the celebrations chaired by Mrs. Eugenia De Youngster, called for an improvement in the school’s overall conditions and academic excellence, aiming to elevate its ranking not only within the region but nationwide.

She emphasized the need for partnership between OLA and her old girls – POGA urging a balanced approach rather than placing demands solely on the latter.
She further congratulated members of the Class of ‘97 and asked that they continue to live lives above reproach with the passing of the years.

The group is slated to join parishioners of the Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Accra on the 4th of June 2023 in a Thanksgiving Mass to crown its celebrations.

Activities of the 25th Anniversary celebrations were sponsored by Members of the Year group, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA)- Tema, Ghacem, Bomarts, Unilever, Awake drinking water, Promassidor- Cowbell, ARB APEX BANK Plc. and street sense.
