The Deputy Minister for Energy Herbert Krapa on the occasion of Engen Ghana Limited’s 25th anniversary lauded the company for its services which has consequently led to a growth in its market share since its establishment in 1998.
Delivering a speech during the commemoration of the 25th anniversary at the Labadi Beach Hotel on April 6, 2023, Krapah described Engen Ghana Limited’s journey so far as an “extraordinary milestone”.
“25 years deserves to be celebrated in grand style, and all of you – the Board, Management and Staff of Engen Ghana should walk chest out, proud of what you have all collectively achieved. Ghana’s Petroleum story is not complete without Engen Ghana Limited,” said the government appointee.
He further mentioned that Engen Ghana Limited’s contribution to the industry was significant to be overlooked, hence, the commendation.
“Last year, the petroleum industry contributed about 9.8% to the country’s GDP, a significant increase from 7.2% in the preceding year, and we know that Engen Ghana played a major role in this significant achievement. You have been a major contributor to the growth of Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry; and you have been dependable while you have done so,” Krapa espoused.
The deputy minister used the opportunity to comment on the Gold for Oil (G4Oil) programme intended to stabilise fuel prices.
The programme was an initiative implemented by the Akufo-Addo-led administration to use Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) existing Domestic Gold Purchase (DGP) programme to support the importation of petroleum products into Ghana.
According to Krapa, “The introduction of the Gold4Oil Programme to provide forex cover for importation of petroleum products outside of the existing forex arrangements has been game-changing; and we are now enjoying significantly lower ex-pump prices.”
Staff of the company who have distinguished themselves were awarded.
EGL started its operations in Ghana in 1998 and has grown to become a formidable player in the oil marketing industry, with a reputation for delivering superior petroleum products and services, including the Petronas range of lubricants.
