In the span of just one year, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, who took over the Bui Power Authority (BPA), as its Chief Executive in September 2021 has been named the CEO of the country’s power sector at the 6th edition of the Ghana Energy Awards in Accra.

BPA also won the Eco-Innovation Business Award, as well as the Energy Company of the Year, in the Renewable category. Under his leadership, the Authority has witnessed record improvements in its operations, having recorded the second-highest generation in the Authority’s history in the year 2021.

He has overseen and guided the operations of existing assets including the 404MW capacity Bui Generating Station, the 50MWp Solar Plant at the Bui Generating Station, the 1MWp Floating Solar Plant at the Bui Generating Station, and the 45kW Tsatsadu Micro Hydro Generating Station.

Currently, ongoing projects at the authority include the combined 150MWp solar project at the Bui Generating Station, the 4MWp Floating Solar Project at the Bui Generating Station, phase two of the Livelihood Enhancement Program for Project Affected Persons within the Bui Enclave, and the expansion of BPA’s Forest Resource Enhancement Program from 420acres to 1,420 acres.

The authority is further planning a 50MWp Solar Plant at Yendi, and a 75kW Micro Hydro Plant at Tsatsadu.

Meanwhile, among its non-power projects, the BPA has set up a 6940-hectare Sugarcane Plantation and processing plant within the Bui Enclave in partnership with Bui Sugar Limited, to process 60,000 tons of sugar annually, and up to a total production capacity of 100,000 metric tons annually.
