UPSA breaks ground for the construction of a new police station

The University of Professional Studies, Accra has broken ground for the construction of a new police station for the university community.

The construction of the one-storey model police station signals a significant step towards fostering a safer community for students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding communities.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, August 3, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Abednego F. O. Amartey, said the commencement of the project marks a pivotal moment in UPSA’s history, underscoring the Management’s dedication to fostering a secure and thriving environment for all community members.

“With the ever-increasing number of students and the expanding community around the university, the need for enhanced security measures has become evident,” Professor Amartey said.


COP Mr Enoch Adutwum Bediako Director General Services at the Ghana Police Service, who formally handed the land documents to the University management, said the construction of the new police station signifies the university’s proactive approach to addressing safety concerns.

“This police station will enable us to better serve the needs of the university and its community by enhancing police visibility and providing a deterrent for criminal activities,” Mr. Bediako said.

The Chairman of the UPSA Governing Council, Dr. Kofi Ohene-Konadu, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and neighbouring communities are of utmost importance to us.”

He thanked the Ghana Police Service, the Lands Commission, and the President of the UPSA Global Alumni Association Mr Francis Dadzie for their respective roles in securing the parcel of land for the project. He further called on the Alumni to contribute financially towards the project as well as corporate Ghana.

The new police station is scheduled to be completed within nine months.
