Producers of Sankofa Natural Spices have officially launched their “Good Food for All – Didi Yie” project at James Camp Prisons, Accra.

The event, which took place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, was designed to promote healthy living through nutritious meals and to bring the benefits of proper nutrition to all Ghanaians, including the less privileged.

A study by the National Library of Medicine has shown that unhealthy diets contribute to the burden of noncommunicable diseases and premature mortality globally.

A diverse array of nutritionally balanced meals was prepared using Sankofa Natural Spices—free of preservatives, MSG, and salt — to promote healthy eating, and these dishes were served to all inmates.

The Marketing Lead for Sankofa Natural Spices, Rosemary Sackey, reiterated the purpose of the project, saying, “We have come to realize the need for everyone to eat right and eat well to be healthy. This project was born out of our commitment to reach the less privileged and show them the love and care they deserve.”

She added that the "Good Food for All" project also serves as a unique opportunity for inmates to engage with the outside world.

The Officer in Charge at James Camp Prisons, Augustina Mensah-Fiadzo, also praised the initiative.

She noted that rehabilitation efforts have long been hidden from public view, and by engaging external partners, the prison now provides a window into the significant work being done to prepare inmates for life beyond its walls.

“We mandate safe custody, rehabilitation, and reformation. For too long, our work within the prison has been hidden. Today, the public sees our efforts to help inmates prepare for life beyond these walls. After long periods of isolation, our inmates need opportunities to interact, develop talents, and rediscover their potential,” she stated.

The event saw inmates engaging in fun activities such as rapping and dancing, among others, designed to make them feel loved and appreciated.

Mrs. Augustina Mensah-Fiadzo emphasized that by providing controlled and secure access to external partners, the prison can showcase the talents developed within its walls and offer additional support to the inmates.

Through a series of talent show activities, the ‘Good Food for All’ project also spotlighted the talents cultivated during the inmates' time in custody.

For instance, a promising musician has already emerged from within the facility—a talent that could flourish further with the right support and mentorship.

Producers of Sankofa Natural Spices plan to extend the “Good Food for All” project beyond prison walls by visiting communities and organizations in need.

Through cooking demonstrations and interactive exercises, the company aims to spread the message of healthy eating while engaging and uplifting those often forgotten by society.

The project aligns with the company’s purpose of changing the way people live by changing how they eat—a pathway to making life better through food. Sankofa Natural Spices is made in Ghana, for Ghanaians, and by Ghanaians.

It is 100% natural, with no additives, preservatives, MSG, or salt.
