SDTA Awards confer on Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Supreme African TV Presenter of the Decade

SDTA Awards has honored Ace Ghanaian television and radio broadcast journalist, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, with one of its biggest titles at its 3rd annual Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards Gala.

Akumaa Mama Zimbi, the relationship expert and host of Odo Ahomaso, a fiery show, that offers critical advice on relationship and marital issues, love and sex, on Adom TV in Ghana has been named “Supreme African TV Presenter of the Decade.”

Akumaa Mama Zimbi, who is deemed “one of the most accomplished and influential TV presenters of all time, popularly known for her fascinating, yet sexually stimulating, ways of expressing "Medaase" (Thank you), a woman of style and world-class African Cultural Icon, famously recognized for her fascinating style of wearing her signature headgear, made up of bright and colorful Ankara fabrics as a branding tool and distinct Akumaa brand, has become the first-ever recipient of the prestigious ‘Supreme African TV Presenter of the Decade’ honor, in the world.

Akumaa Mama Zimbi's career spans much longer than just the most recent decade her career as a broadcast journalist started as far back as May 2000.

The “Supreme African TV Presenter of the Decade” title is more of a reference to celebrate the supremacy of Mama Zimbi ‘s work rate in the past ten years, she was therefore recognized for her talent and years of bringing quality shows to TV screens.

Her ability to pull people in, emotionally and connect with her viewers and people of all backgrounds has propelled her to the forefront of the broadcasting industry and has led her to become one of the most respected TV presenters on African TV.

About Akumaa Mama Zimbi

Akumaa Mama Zimbi, aka Dr. Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, is a Ghanaian celebrated media personality. She is a Ghanaian television and radio broadcast journalist, women's rights activist, blogger, marriage counselor, actress, and philanthropist.

She attended Krobo Girls' Senior High School, an institution that shaped the woman she is today. She also went to the Ghallywood Academy Of Film Acting and the Ghana Institute Of Journalism (GIJ).

She started her career in the 1980s. In January 1988, she was employed by Djaboc Enterprise Limited as a front desk manager. She emerged as an actress in the early 1990s when she portrayed the role of a house girl in Cantata Show on Ghana Television Station. Later, she transitioned into a journalist.

She became a broadcast journalist in May 2000 when The Multimedia Group (Ltd.) employed her. A friend named Rosemary encouraged her to visit Joy FM, the Tema branch, to express interest in media. At the time, she did not know much about journalism.

Even so, her bubbly nature and acumen convinced the relevant officials to give her a job. She caught the attention of people on air within no time. She has been a radio personality for over two decades.

Today, she hosts the Odo Ahomaso Show on Adom Television in Ghana. The show, which many call the Akumaa Mama Zimbi Show, offers critical advice on relationship and marital issues. Akumaa has risen through the ranks in her career. She is guided by the principles of hard work, humility, and discipline. She is a household name in the Ghanaian media industry.

Akumaa Mama Zimbi's videos are about charity and the work done by her foundation. As a YouTuber, she also advises on love, relationships, and marriage on the platform.

Philanthropy

Besides being on television and radio, Akumaa runs the Mama Zimbi Foundation. She founded the organization in March 2007. The foundation is committed to motivating, empowering, and supporting widows and needy children. It also educates adolescents on their sexual and reproductive health and HIV.

The non-governmental organization runs various projects, including Widows Alliance Network (WANE) and Adolescents Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH).
