National union of ghana students

6th May,2006 PRESS RELEASE

The Central Committee of the National Union of Ghana Students at a meeting last night passed resolution to dismiss the President Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; the Womens? Commissioner Victoria Hamah; and the Press and Information Secretary Selorm Amevor in accordance with the dictates of the constitution of the union.

NUGS Central Committee charged the sacked officers of ?acting in a manner that has brought discredit to NUGS, brought its name into disrepute, ridicule and contempt? as categorically stated in article 27 clause 2b of the NUGS constitution thereby deserving the punishment thereof.

The Central Committee which is the highest decision making body after Congress has thus mandated the NUGS General Secretary Mahama Haruna to act as President in accordance with the constitution of the union.

Any structure or body that therefore recognize or accord the above mentioned officers with their earlier respective positions or roles in NUGS do so at its own risk.

We hope that this will bring to a halt the wrangling that had engulfed NUGS and also bring back the University of Ghana into the fold of NUGS for the good of mother Ghana and collective interest of the Student Body.

Yours Faithfully,

Mahama Haruna (General secretary/Acting President) 0243-313113
