Kinbu Senior High Technical School launches 150 Years Anniversary

The Board Chairman, the Headmistress and Old Students of Kinbu Senior High Technical School (KSHT), have held a press launch to officially inform all stakeholders of the school about the upcoming 150 years Anniversary of the school, with a call on the President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, a product of the school, to find time amidst his busy schedules, to support his alma mater to celebrate the 150 years milestone of the school’s existence.

The short but impressive ceremony was held at the headmistress office at the school on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

At the press launch, the chairman of the Governing Board of the school, Mr. John Mensah Anang, said, the historic milestone represents a century and a half of educational excellence, resilience and transformative impact on the lives of countless students. He paid tribute to visionaries and trailblazers who, over the years, have laid the foundation of this esteemed institution.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Sylvia M. Letcher-Teye, gave a historical background and phases that the school has undergone from 1874 to date. In the phase one, the school was known as Rowe-Road’s school and Kinbu Middle Boys School in 1874. The phase two occurred in 1987, where the school metamorphosed to Kinbu Junior Secondary School. Phase three saw the school changed its courses to include technical programmes, so the school’s name changed to Kinbu Secondary Technical School in 1991. The final phase four occurred in 2006 when WAEC switched its examination from Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (SSSCE) to West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This modified the names of Senior Secondary Schools to Senior High Schools, hence, Kinbu Secondary Technical School also became Kinbu Senior High Technical School.

Mentioning some of the distinguished old students of Kinbu Senior High Technical School, the Headmistress said, the school is proud to say that first Gentleman of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo was a product of the school. She therefore called on the President to spare a little time of his busy schedules and support the school to celebrate this milestone of 150 years.

Other Kinbu Old Students Association (KOSA) members who have distinguished themselves include Prof. Nii Otu Nartey – (KOSA-1960), former CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital; the late Nat Nunoo Amarteifio, former Metropolitan CEO of Accra; Nii Aryee Krotia, a.k.a, George M. Aryee, Development Chief of James Town; Mr. Isaac Nortey (KOSA-1960), Labour Union Activist, USA; Rev. Nii John Gershong (KOSA-1963), Missiologist and Dr. Ishmael Nii Amanor Dodoo of United Nations, to mention but a few.

The President of KOSA, Ing. Joseph Oddei, in his welcome address said, by celebrating this 150 years anniversary next year, precisely on 28th September, 2024, the school would be celebrating the success of Teachers, Students and all those who have played various roles in bringing Kinbu this far amidst the various challenges. He said, that was why management of the school has carefully chosen the anniversary theme: “Equipping our future leaders with the 21st century skills – the roles of the stakeholders”, which would bring stakeholders together through various pre-anniversary activities to discuss the theme.

In attendance of the Press launch included: Joyce Osae-Apenteng – Municipal Director of Education, Korle Klottey, Ing. Benjamin Owusu-Guest Speaker for the main event, Ruth Patience A Dangoson-GES, David Tettey Tawiah-Assistant Headmaster, Academic, Zenabu Adams – Assistant Head, Domestic, Matilda E. Blewudzi-Assistant Head, Adm, Emmanuel Nicholas Osei-PTA Chairman of the school, Rev. Paul Agbemava-KOSA, Apostle Maclean Allotey-KOSA, Staff and non-staff employees of the school and a session of the school choir, who provided sweet melodies of the school anthem and other songs to the admiration of the guests.

The Anniversary activities are scheduled as Press Launch which has been held on Wednesday, 26th July, 2023. The main launching of the Anniversary is scheduled for 24th November, 2023 at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Auditorium, whilst the 150th Anniversary/Speech & Prize Giving Day is scheduled for 28th September, 2024. Pre-Speech & Prize Giving Day activities include: Fun Games, KOSA Homecoming, Health Screening, Clean-up exercise and Float at the principal streets of Kinbu.
