What happens when love meets reality—and reality refuses to play nice?
That question takes center stage in I DO, I DON’T, the latest play from Roverman Productions in partnership with National Theatre. Written by celebrated playwright Ebo Whyte, the production promises a gripping, emotional, and thought-provoking experience that peels back the glossy surface of modern marriage.
At the heart of the story is Abena Ackon—a woman many will instantly recognize. Strong, hardworking, and principled, yet pushed to the brink. At work, her competence is under scrutiny as pressure mounts and at home, things are no better. Her husband’s demands grow heavier, her mother-in-law adds fuel to the fire, and even her faith offers little comfort in the chaos.
It’s a familiar narrative in many Ghanaian homes: the expectation for women to be everything—perfect wives, high-performing professionals, and ever-submissive daughters-in-law. But what happens when the weight of these expectations becomes unbearable?
With his signature blend of humour and hard truth, Uncle Ebo Whyte delivers a story that is as hilarious as it is deeply reflective, challenging audiences to rethink the realities behind the words “I do.”
The play runs on March 27th, 28th, 29th and April 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2026, at the National Theatre.
