Besides making an appearance as a Guest at the 2023 Celebration of World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd at the Ghana International Press Center in Accra, Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHARJ, Joseph Whittal is positive about building the capacity of Journalists in reporting on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.

This was an outcome when Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA led by its President Albert Dwumfour paid a courtesy call on the CHARJ Boss.

The premise of the meeting was to discuss matters of mutual interest to both entities in executing their mandates under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The meeting also sought to re-engage and to seek entry points of collaboration and partnership with CHARJ, according to GJA President Albert Dwumfour.

‘’We (GJA) share a lot in common democracy good governance and accountability…..I think that we share so many things in common. We need to work together ….we also, like yourself (CHARJ) protect the rights and interests of the people, Journalists’’, Mr Dwumfour noted.

The CHARJ Commissioner, Joseph Whittal, spoke of the need for more public engagements, as their findings reveal that the public rather wants to hear directly from CHARJ, ‘’even though persons or institutions investigated get copies of findings’’.

He encouraged the formation of a crop of Journalists with special capacity in Human Rights and Administrative Justice Reportage.

‘’Now Journalists in Parliament are using Parliamentary Language, so we need capacity building on Human Rights and the work of CHARJ so that the Journalists can report from an informed perspective’’, Mr. Whittal stated.
