Blossom Academy, a leading Africa-based training institute focused on data science and technology, has earned a spot among the top 25 finalists in the prestigious 2025 Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge (PIC) — a global competition recognizing high-impact student and alumni ventures from across the university’s schools.
The selection marks a major milestone for the academy, which aims to equip underserved communities across Africa with in-demand data skills and job placement support. Founded by Jeph B. Acheampong, Harvard-trained entrepreneur and social innovator, Blossom Academy was recognized for its unique education-to-employment model and its growing impact across the continent.
Since its launch, the academy has trained over 700 young people and recently expanded its operations into Rwanda. Judges commended Blossom's strong partnerships with employers, government agencies, and its efforts to build a sustainable talent pipeline for Africa’s digital economy.
This recognition in a competition that featured hundreds of ventures from across Harvard is a significant achievement. Finalists were selected from across 12 Harvard schools, with up to $517,000 in prize money awarded during the final pitch event held at Klarman Hall, Harvard Business School.
“This milestone embodies the promise of Psalm 30:5—‘Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning,’” said Acheampong in response to the recognition. “This is not just a win for our team—it’s a win for Africa’s youth. It proves what’s possible when they believe in themselves and are given a chance.”
Judges offered positive feedback on Blossom Academy's model, but also encouraged the team to explore additional creative strategies for financial sustainability, including localized funding partnerships and supplementary revenue-generating activities.
Acheampong described the experience as a "big break" and a powerful platform to drive further impact: “It’s a proud moment for our entire community—our Fellows, our team, and our partners who work with us to unlock opportunity, democratize hope, and shape Africa’s tech workforce.”
Blossom Academy’s recognition reinforces Africa’s growing reputation as a center for innovation, digital training, and youth empowerment on the African continent.
