A new digital media platform, Accra Street Journal, has been launched to provide coverage of business activity, entrepreneurship, and the everyday economic realities shaping Ghana’s capital.
The publication operates under SamBoad Publishing, a media division of SamBoad Business Group Ltd., which manages a growing portfolio of digital news platforms focused on business, sports, and socio-economic developments.
The launch reflects a broader shift in Ghana’s media landscape, where digital-first publications are increasingly emerging to serve specialized audiences and provide deeper coverage of niche sectors.
Accra Street Journal will focus on business developments, entrepreneurship, urban commerce, and the informal economy across the city of Accra, highlighting stories that often go underreported in mainstream media.
According to Samuel Kwame Boadu, Editor-in-Chief of Accra Street Journal and founder of SamBoad Business Group Ltd, the goal of the platform is to capture the economic pulse of the capital through stories rooted in everyday business activity.
“Across Accra, the economy is driven not only by large corporations but also by thousands of small businesses, traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs operating in markets, transport hubs, and emerging commercial districts,” Boadu said.
“Accra Street Journal seeks to document these stories and highlight the role they play in Ghana’s broader economic development.”
Expanding a Growing Digital Media Portfolio
Accra Street Journal joins several other digital media platforms managed under SamBoad Publishing. These include Accra Business News, Accra Sports News, The High Street Business, and SKB Journal.
Each platform focuses on a distinct content niche, ranging from business reporting and financial analysis to sports coverage and cultural commentary.
Industry observers note that niche digital publications have become increasingly important in Ghana’s media ecosystem, allowing publishers to target specific audiences while offering specialized reporting that complements broader national coverage.
SamBoad Publishing says the expansion of its media assets reflects growing demand for focused and accessible digital journalism.
Recognition at GhanaWeb Excellence Awards
The launch also follows recent recognition for Samuel Kwame Boadu within Ghana’s digital media space. He was nominated at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025 under the Media and Communication category.
The nomination recognized his role in developing multiple digital media platforms under SamBoad Publishing, which collectively contribute to online journalism and content creation in Ghana.
Industry watchers say the rise of independent digital publishers like SamBoad Publishing illustrates how media entrepreneurship is evolving as audiences increasingly consume news through online channels.
The Growth of Digital Journalism in Ghana
Ghana’s media sector has experienced significant changes over the past decade as internet access and smartphone usage have expanded. More readers now access news online through search engines and social media platforms, creating new opportunities for digital-native publications.
While traditional media outlets remain influential, particularly in radio and television broadcasting, digital platforms are becoming increasingly important for real-time reporting and niche storytelling.
Accra Street Journal aims to position itself within this growing space by focusing on economic stories that reflect the everyday experiences of businesses and individuals across the capital.
Focus on Urban Economic Trends
Through regular features, analysis, and field reporting, the platform plans to explore a wide range of topics including small and medium-sized enterprises, informal sector activity, urban trade networks, and emerging business opportunities in Accra.
Samuel said documenting these trends is essential for understanding the broader economic transformation taking place in Ghana’s cities.
“Many of the most important economic developments occur at the grassroots level,” he said.
“By reporting on the businesses and people operating within Accra’s commercial spaces, we can offer insights into the forces shaping the city’s economy.”
As Accra continues to expand as a major commercial hub in West Africa, platforms like Accra Street Journal are expected to play a role in capturing the changing dynamics of business and urban development.
With its launch, SamBoad Publishing adds another platform to its growing digital media network, further strengthening its presence in Ghana’s online journalism landscape.
