Independent parliamentary candidate calls for new political party

Kumasi, Jan 23, GNA - Mr Abdul Majeed Alhassan, an independent parliamentary candidate for the Asawase constituency in the 2004 elections, has called on splinter political parties and activists to resolve to merge, so as to present a united front to contest for the people's mandate.

He said, "Ghana needs a new viable party to facilitate her socio-economic development, since the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Convention People's Party (CPP), which had dominated the political landscape of the country had nothing good again to offer the nation".

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Saturday, Mr Alhassan said, "The NPP, NDC and CPP have exhausted all their ideas, such as economic policies and development agenda yet the country finds itself in the doldrums of poverty".

He said there was therefore the need for the injection of fresh ideas and dynamism into the political arena of the nation, if Ghana were to fully utilize her human and natural resources. The political activist regretted that many Ghanaian had lost confidence in the nation's politicians as a result of failing to deliver on their campaign promises.

"We need a new breed of leadership, who would be capable of changing the economic misfortunes of the nation through proactive economic policies", he remarked.

Mr Alhassan urged Ghanaians to be tolerant of divergent views and shun intra-party conflicts for peace to prevail in the nation. .
