NPP urged to embrace defectors

Sunyani (B/A), Jan. 15, GNA - Nana Obiri Boahen, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party at the weekend urged members of the party to embrace defectors from other political parties to ensure a landslide victory in the 2008 general election. He expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of some members to cast insinuations at defectors of other parties who wish to join the NPP, saying the practice did not augur well for the growth and development of the party.
Nana Boahen, a legal practitioner gave the advice at a get-together organised by the Nasara Club of the Sunyani east constituency of the NPP in Sunyani.
The Regional Chairman advised members of the Club to eschew ethnic differences and demonstrate unity of purpose to woo more members to the party.
Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Deputy Regional Minister, entreated the members to be wary of tactics being employed by the NDC and other opposition parties to dent the image of the NPP and stay focused and united for a resounding victory in 2008. "The PNDC/NDC 19 years' rule could not offer Ghanaians any better living standards and voting them back to power will spell the doom of the country", he said. Mr Baffour-Awuah emphasized the need for the Nasara Club to eschew divisive tendencies and rather use their position to attract more members to join the party.
Mr Francis Kwaku Baniah, Constituency Chairman, urged party members to sensitise Zongo communities to solidly rally behind the NPP government to accelerate national development. Mr Moro Abdul Kadri, Regional Chief Imam, reiterated the need for the members to unite and work towards the progress of the party to retain power.
Alhaji Iddrisu Mumkala, Chairman of the Club advised members to work hard to attract more people to join the party. He complained about inadequate logistics to mobilize more members to the Club and appealed to the national party executive to come to their aid by providing adequate materials for the effective discharge of their duties.
