Asiedu Nketia reveals plans of NDC amidst coronavirus

The General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has spoken about recent debates on what the future of 2020 elections is, as the country continues to battle with the deadly COVID-19.
There have been raging debates about the future of 2020 elections in Ghana if COVID-19 escalates and eats into the time table of the much-awaited polls
Ghana’s constitution does not make room for elections to be postponed neither does it make room for the extension of the tenure of the President thus, the country’s inability to organize election 2020 may plunge the country into a constitutional crisis.
But speaking on the issue on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Asiedu Nketia who is popularly known as General Mosquito said currently, the President has ordered that all stakeholders come together to fight COVID-19 so that is exactly what the NDC is doing.
According to him, the NDC will bother itself with issues on elections only when the green light has been given for election-related issues to begin.
On the party’s position on debates on the country’s future should the escalation of COVID-19 affect elections 2020, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said “the Constitution does not make room for elections to be postponed. The tenure of the Akufo-Addo led government cannot be extended by even one hour. So when we get there we will have to come together as a country to rack our brains to find the way forward”.
On the party’s strategies, if electioneering rallies are not allowed during this period, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the NDC will resort to the available tools including social media to reach the masses to canvass for votes.
Furthering his talks about political campaigns and rallies, the NDC’s General Secretary said that there should be an equal playing field for all political parties such that if all political parties are adopting social media to meet 10% of the voting populace, all parties are given the same opportunity so that the outcome of the elections will be the will of the people.
