Jaman South District confirms DCE

Drobo (B/A), June 29, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Seinti, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has condemned the practice by some people to describe themselves as "concerned citizens", saying it was a phenomenon that must be abolished with immediate effect.

The Regional Minister referred to "so-called faithful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who pretend to be staunch members of the party but inwardly are not" and said if they were true lovers of the party they would channel their grievances and objective criticisms through the appropriate quarters for redress instead of embarking on demonstrations. "If such citizens are true lovers of the party they would not mobilize themselves to embark on demonstrations that would dent the good record of the NPP government", Nana Seinti said.

He was addressing a meeting of Jaman South District Assembly at which Mr. P. Apraku-Tanoh, head of the Science Department of Drobo Secondary School, was confirmed as the first DCE for the district, carved out of the erstwhile Jaman District last year. Mr. Apraku-Tanoh, 44, received the nod of 31 of the 35 assembly members.

Nana Seinti urged members of the assembly to keep the new DCE "on his toes" and support.

The new DCE expressed gratitude to the assembly members and pledged to do his best for the accelerated development of the district. He urged them to tolerate differing views, warning that the district, which was already engulfed in ethnic and chieftaincy disputes would not tolerate negative tendencies including ethnocentrisms, nepotism or favouritism during his tenure of office.

Mr Apraku-Tanoh pledged to operate a transparent administration and invited suggestions, complaints and criticisms that would help him to steer the affairs of the district successfully.

Mr Gabriel Kofi Kyeremeh, Presiding Member, appealed to members of the assembly and the people to develop trust and confidence in the leadership of the assembly "since we are determined and committed to solving the myriad of problems confronting the district".
