The goat might be one of the least celebrated animals in religious literature and even in society for good reason for its stray nature and occasional chewing of valuables.

It, however, appears the people of Adukrom Nima in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region will have to choose between a metaphoric goat and two others as their Assembly Member on December 17.

A 28-year-old barber Nana Adabor Ibrahim Isaah Ampim, a.k.a. “Aponkye”, in the predominantly Zongo community is aspiring to be an assembly member for the Adukrom Nima electoral area.

“A goat is smart. It looks left and right before it crosses the road. A goat get strong so it does not get sick. A goat will vex if you bring an aid it does not like and that is why I take aponkye to be my symbol because aponkye is like my behavion; like my LT,” words of Honourable Aponkye in an interview with Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador.

Not only does his reverence for the animal “aponkye” appears weird; his campaign promises are heaven on earth as he is promising one house, one biogas toilet facility to solve the problem of several houses lacking household toilet facilities.

Aponkye is also promising to give jobs that will provide tea and bread plus 20 cedis to every unemployed youth in Adukrom Zango.

As if that was not enough; he is promising to provide Canopies and Chairs to every community member who holds any gathering in Adukrom Nima.

Nana Adabor is also assuring his electorates of free Makaranta education and free garbage pickups every morning with all streets filled with litter bins. Aponkye who finds himself third on the ballot paper does enjoy huge support from all walks of life in the Adukrom Nima community.

Children, adults, tricycle riders, artisans, driver’s mates, and virtually anyone will hardly see him pass by without yelling out his accolades.

A fanatic told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, "If you hear us shout three three three; it means he is on the third place on the ballot and we know that he will bring us the kind of development that we want to experience.”

Aponkye walks around with some really maverick big shoes, a fashionable pair of pants, a jacket and a slim tie over his shirt, but there is more to Aponkye that meets the eye.

He has added a musical spice to his campaign; a song and rap he personally composed for his electoral bid.

His contender who is seeking another term in office Abdulla Idrisu will not mind a line in Aponkye’s song which sings, “Aponkye b3ma Idrisu asu m33333333.”

He insists, “the people only see him as comic relief. He even makes me laugh sometimes but he is adding something to the game and he has that right.

So whenever you visit Adukrom Nima and you come across a goat; you might have to look closer because you might just be looking at the next assembly member for that area.
