Following varied reactions resulting from the failure of some NDC legislators in picking up their nomination forms to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Otokunor has said that the fielding of new candidates for parliamentary slots gives the party even brighter chances of controlling the legislative arm of government in the 2020 elections, ABC News can report.

Nadowli Kaleo MP, Alban Bagbin, Ketu South MP, Fifi Kwetey, Hohoe MP, Dr. Bernice Heloo, and Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini are some of the rather experienced hands who have decided to bow out of the race to remain in parliament following the opening of nominations by the party.

While a section of the public fear that their voluntary withdrawal could spell doom for the National Democratic Congress, Deputy General Secretary of the party, Peter Boamah Otukonor has dispelled those fears revealing that the fielding of fresh faces to contest will rather better enhance the party’s chances of retaining those seats and even coveting several more.

He said in an interview monitored by ABCNews that the withdrawal of the MPs does not in any way, pose challenges to the party’s chances in 2020.

“The party would have to field new candidates and I can assure you, that looking at the quality of aspirants that we have in this election, we have no doubt that we are going to elect a very solid team to lead our party in parliament. And when it comes to winning the elections at the various constituencies, that one our chances are even more brighter because we are bringing in fresh blood.”

He also believes that the commitment that these new aspirants bring on board coupled with strengthened relationship with the grassroots will inure to the benefit of the party, come 2020.
