2020: 'NDC is the only hope for Ghanaians to alleviate hardships' - Tarkwa NDC

The Leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem of the Western Region has said the only hope Ghanaians have is NDC to come to power in 2020 to alleviate them from economic hardships under the Akufo-Addo led government.

In a congratulatory message to former President John Mahama on his victory in the just ended presidential primaries of the party, the Constituency Secretary of the party, George Gadd Enimil said: "The NDC is the only hope for Ghanaians and we cannot afford to disappoint them come 2020".

He added, "The Chairman and entire Constituency Executive Committee of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem NDC wish to congratulate H.E John Dramani Mahama for the resounding endorsement received from delegates of the party across the length and breadth of this country particularly in Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency in the just-ended presidential primaries".

He continued "This endorsement by the delegates of the NDC is a clear manifestation of a stronger collective force ready to fight for our victory match in into the 2020 general elections. It's, therefore, an endorsement of the NDC returning to power in 2020 and not just for you as a person".

He urged "We wish to call on you and the six other persons who were in the contest with you in the primaries to demonstrate a great deal of comradeship and commitment among yourselves to carry the fight to our common political 'enemy'"

He added, "We equally urge all the contestants to call on their supporters to put the outcome of this election behind them and recognise the results as a victory for all of us and the NDC party and join hands together for victory 2020".

"We also congratulate the six other persons namely ASK Bagbin, Nurudeen Mahama, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbah, Hon. Sylvester Mensah, Mr Goosie Tanoh and Prof. Joshua Alabi for their decision to contest which has enhanced and strengthened the party's internal democracy", he said.

He blasted "The NDC cannot allow this nepotistic government led by Nana Addo and Bawumia to continue to inflict Ghanaians with this extreme levels of hardships and misery".

He emphasized, "Ghanaians under Nana Addo-Bawumia's government are wallowing in acute poverty and are experiencing the worst economic hardships in their entire lives in this country".

He appealed "We need to work assiduously to recapture political power in 2020 in order to alleviate Ghanaians from the current state they find themselves".

He acknowledged "We also congratulate all our dedicated delegates, the council of elders and stakeholders for their immense contributions towards a successful and peaceful primary".

He concluded, "We cannot forget to show appreciation to all party members, supporters and sympathizers who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the just ended primaries in the constituency".

Background

The former President whipped six other contenders in the flagbearer race with 213,443 votes, constituting 95.24% of the total votes cast across.

He beat competition from Prof Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Sylvester Mensah, Goosie Tanoh and Nurudeen Iddrisu to emerge as the flagbearer of the party after Saturday’s primaries, February 23, 2019.

Close to 300,000 delegates took part in the primaries across all 275 constituencies.
Mr Mahama was followed by former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) Prof. Joshua Alabi, who polled a total of 3,399 votes, constituting 1.516 per cent of total votes cast.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin followed with 2,313 votes constituting 1.032 per cent followed by Goosie Tanoh, who polled 2,038 votes representing 0.909 per cent.

Former Trade Minister Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah placed fourth with 1,457 votes, constituting 0.650 per cent.

Sylvester Mensah came sixth with 932 votes, representing 0.425 per cent and Nurudeen Iddrisu appeared at the bottom with 519 votes, constituting 0.231 per cent.
