Alhaji Mumuni tours Sekondi-Takoradi

Sekondi, Nov. 17, GNA - Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Running Mate, on Wednesday said the difference between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was that while NDC was "human centred" the NPP was "property centred".

He was speaking during an interaction with Muslims at the Sekondi Zongo as part of his two-day visit to the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolis. Alhaji Mumuni said the NPP was an aristocratic government that was protecting the property owning class and its vision and aspirations had nothing to do with the poor and the disadvantaged in society. He said this explained why there was extreme hardship in the country and the cost of living had skyrocketed, putting the poor and the disadvantaged on the fringes of the Ghanaian society.

Alhaji Mumuni said the NDC rejected the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative because it was conceived its conditionality would bring hardship to the man in the street and this was the case at present.

He said even though, the NPP claimed the HIPC Initiative was good for the country more people were becoming poorer, school fees and health care were unaffordable and unemployment was on the increase.

Alhaji Mumuni said the NDC Government was able to achieve single digit inflation but the NPP had not been able to do so.

He said poverty was a legacy the NPP was going to bequeath the country but an NDC Government of Professor John Evans Atta Mills would "deepen the micro economic dimension, re-link economic efficiency with social progress, reach out to the poor and the disadvantaged and bring them on board".

Alhaji Mumuni said the election must be fought and won on principles and not on personalities and asked the people to make a well-informed choice.

Madam Tabitha Quaye, First Regional Vice-Chairperson of NDC, said the NPP had not delivered on its promises and would not be able to deliver when given the mandate for another four years. She said the NDC did not want violence to occur during the election but wanted free and fair elections.

Madam Quaye said politics was about people and was honourable but some people were making it dirty, adding that the NDC wanted to play clean politics.

Later, Alhaji Mumuni introduced Miss Betty Bosomtwi-Sam, the Party's Parliamentary Candidate for Sekondi.

Speaking during an interaction with the people at Abuesi, near Sekondi, Alhaji Mumuni said the policies of the NPP were elitist and had no place in the development of the country.

He said the NDC was opposed to the policies of the NPP and rather had a vision of social democracy that would improve the lot of the poor and vulnerable and establish an all-inclusive society. Alhaji Mumuni said NPP had caused the fishing and the timber industries to collapse and "pre-mix fuel has become the target of corruption and an article of commerce".

He said fishermen were not able to make sufficient catch and the prices of fishing inputs had gone up and called on the people to vote out the NPP to end all their woes.

Addressing a rally at Effiakuma Zongo, Alhaji Mumuni said Professor Mills was not seeking power but an opportunity to serve and improve the lot of all Ghanaians and not a few as was being done by the NPP. He said: "You can trust him and he would not tell lies and would connect Ghanaians with the truth when he comes to power."

Alhaji Mumuni said the vision of Professor Mills was social democracy, development, equity and other all-inclusive policies that Ghanaians would have a stake in.

He said Professor Mills was a man of character and the election was an opportunity for Ghanaians to elect him to change conditions in the country for the better.

Mrs Esther Lily Nkansah, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Takoradi, said the NPP was contracting loans before the elections just to deceive the people.

He said Ghanaians should not allow NPP to enslave their minds but should analyse the situation and vote the Party out of power. Alhaji Mumuni introduced Mr Kweku Christian, the Party's Parliamentary Candidate for Effia-Kwesiminstim.
