One of the contestants in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairmanship race, Fredrick Amankwaah Sarfo, has withdrawn from the contest.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Thursday, Mr. Sarfo said, his engagements with major stakeholders across the country indicate that his chances are very slim.

“I have sought advice and listened to good counsel and also have assessed our chances to this point and decided to graciously postpone our contest.

“I have since engaged major stakeholders across the country. I have been humbled by the warm reception from the members of the National Council of Elders, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Patrons of our party, Regional and Constituency executives. My team and I are most grateful to each and every one,” he said

In 2017, Mr. Sarfo declared his intention to contest in the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming National Delegates Conference.

Mr. Fred Sarfo did not disclose to the media which candidate he is likely to support.

“I want to wish all aspirants God's blessings and to urge them to be circumspect and mindful of the supreme interest of the party. We are reminded of Article 3D of our party's constitution,” he said.

“I extend best wishes to my senior colleagues and contestants Mr. Freddy Blay (Acting National Chairman), Mr. Stephen Ntim and Alhaji Abubakari Rahman (Alhaji Short) as they file to contest; and I urge all to conduct their campaign in a most decent manner, devoid of conduct the is likely to mar the relative peace the party is enjoying now,” he added.
