Mahama's credential as communications expert questionable - Mohammed Abass

Former president John Mahama Former president John Mahama

A political science lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science (KNUST), Mohammed Abass says he doubts the competence of former president Mahama as a communications expert.

The former president he said, lacks the competence as an expert in communication based on his previous utterances in the run-up to the 2016 presidential and parliamentary polls.

Speaking to Kwame Tutu, on Rainbow Radio 875.Fm on why the former president failed to identify the flaws of his communications minister Dr. Omane Boamah, as stated by a member of the Kwesi Botchwey’s fact finding committee.

Dr. Zeberu a member of the Botchwey committee blamed Dr. Omane Boamah and Seth Terkper for partly causing defeat of party because they buried information in their chest without releasing them.

Mr. Abass, when asked why Mr. Mahama was unable to identify the flaws of the former Minister and sack him said, ‘’this confirms the lack of intellectual base I was talking about.

They have intellectuals but there is no intellectual base guiding all of them, and when there is no intellectual base, we see the contradictions.’’ He added, ‘’ the former president who is touted as a communications expert lacks the expertise.

When you chronicle some of his utterances, you will conclude that he [Mahama] lacks the expertise. Do you remember when he said people in Kumasi will not appreciate him even if he applies gold as asphalt on their roads? Do you also remember that he said Ghanaians have a short memory?

Do you also remember that the former president said, only former presidents are entitled to criticize him? Do you remember his dead goat syndrome?

All these statements throw doubt on Mahama’s capabilities as a communications expert.

A good communicator is the one who is able to convince people and make them relate to him/her well. I question the credentials of the former president.’’ He said, ‘’I am not saying the NDC does not have intellectuals but the intellectual base is what they lack just like the recommendations of the report said and I think they should work on that.’’
