Savelugu residents vow to vote against Nana Addo in 2020 over MCE brouhaha

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

The New Patriotic Party youth supporters in the Savelugu district have expressed disappointment in President Nana Akufo-Addo for pushing the nomination of the current Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.

Earlier this week, there were clashes between the residents, the police personnel, with the police opening fire and the residents throwing stones in retaliation.

The clashes which occurred on the premises of the district's assembly, led to several members of the municipal assembly, sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

The irate residents have vowed to continue their protest against the appointed MCE, until she is dismissed from her post. One of the leaders of the demonstrating group, Abdul Karim Zakari, spoke to Okay FM, stating the Savelugu residents were promised by the president that the polling station executives in the community would be consulted before an MCE would be nominated.

However, according to them, that did not happen. He said they will continue to protest against the appointed MCE, as they could work with anyone else in the district but her.

Abdul Zakari further said the residents have threatened to vote against President Akufo-Addo in 2020, if he did not remove Hajia Ayishetu Seidu from her position. "We will continue resisting her continuous stay in the office until her appointment is revoked. She has never contributed in kind or in cash to the development of the party. She cannot reap what she has not sown and we will not allow that to happen.

Anytime we hear she is in the office we will storm there and force her out. There are others who are known in the constituency who contested with her and were interviewed, they should pick one of them for peace to prevail," he said.

They added they would not be bothered by the MCE's armed escort, even if she continues with the security measure for the next four years.

Earlier this week, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama has asked the Savelugu residents to stop their protests against the MCE.

The minister urged the residents to accept the decision, as she was selected by the district's assembly executives, hence there was no need for the violent demonstrations.
