Voters registration trend in Sekyere West

Mampong (Ash), March 24, GNA - The Sekyere West District in the Ashanti Region is poised to exceed its target of registering 81,827 people in the on-going voters registration exercise, Mr Osman Ali, the District Electoral Officer has said.
He explained that the people were patronising the exercise because they were educated on its significance adding that some people in the urban areas decided to register in their hometowns.
Mr Ali told the GNA on Wednesday that 40 out of the 186 registration centres in the district had by the close of the registration on Tuesday exceeded their targets by over 100 registered voters.
He emphasised that the exercise in the district was so far without any registration malpractices. Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, the District Chief Executive, also told the GNA that he was encouraged by the trend of the exercise expressed the hope that the peaceful atmosphere would prevail at the forthcoming polls.

Ejura-Sekyedumase participating massively in registration exercise

Ejura (Ash), March 24, GNA - Madam Elizabeth Owusu, District Chief Executive for Ejura-Sekyedumase, on Monday expressed satisfaction with the maturity by which the people in the district were participating in the voters registration exercise.
In an interview with the GNA at Ejura on the on-going exercise, she commended the District electoral Officer and the registration officials for their good work.
Madam Owusu said "The fact that the exercise had not been marred by any violence so far, is an indication that the forthcoming polls would be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere in the district".
She called on Ghanaians to ensure a successful registration exercise and to sustain the peace the country was enjoying.
Madam Owusu said "I hope that when the time comes for the general elections we would demonstrate political maturity ".
Mr Eric Ohene-Gyan, the District Electoral Officer, said he was hopeful that the district would meet its 36,000 target and that 30,000 people had registered.

Police are looking for man who slashed the chest of registration agent

Accra, Mar 24, GNA- The Nima Police has mounted a search for one Bangam Linshor, who slashed the chest of Mustapha Minime, an NDC registration agent at the Maazukota Registration Centre in the Ayawaso East Constituency in Accra.
Police Chief Superintendent Felix S Fiati, Nima Divisional Police Commander disclosed this at a meeting with chiefs, Imams and opinion leaders within his area of operation to discuss how to fight the rampant crime wave in the area.
According to the victim who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he was with his colleague registration agent at the centre when Linshor came there and started to castigate both the NDC and NPP that they had all failed the country.
He said when he was asked to stop talking to enable the registration to go on smoothly, Linshor had a quarrel with him and slashed him on the chest with a cutlass and bolted. Minime said he reported the matter to the police who referred him to a hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Superintendent Fiati called for revival of the neighbourhood watchdog committees at Nima and Maamobi to ensure the arrest of hardened criminals who were hiding there.
He asked the youth in the area not to allow themselves to be used as land guards and cause damage to life and property. Chief Superintendent Fiata warned against unauthorized blocking of roads for funerals, weddings and other social gatherings to cause inconveniences to road users.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East advised parents to invest in the education of their children instead of spending their wealth on funerals and expensive clothing.
He disclosed that he had embarked upon a programme to visit all schools in the area to encourage students especially those in Junior Secondary School (JSS) three to study hard to enable them to come out successfully of the impending Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
Alhaji Baba Issah, one of the elders at Maamobi who chaired the function called for co-operation among the people and the police to ensure that criminal were flushed out of the area. During an open forum, the people pleaded with the police to put in place, measures to ensure that informants were not exposed.
