The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s conduct in relation to the filing of Presidential nomination forms amply demonstrated the party’s unreadiness to govern the country.

The Acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu with a day to go for the close of nomination, rushed to the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in Accra on Wednesday to seek clarification on aspects of requirements dealing with assets declaration contained on the Presidential nomination forms.

This was after the EC issued a statement Tuesday, September 27, 2016 asking all aspirants to include in their nomination forms to the EC a receipt of their assets declaration as part of their eligibility criteria.

The aspirants have just tomorrow to meet that obligation with the deadline for the submission of nomination forms set for September 30, 2016.

Acting General Secretary of the party, John Boadu said the EC directive came too late in the day as some of the aspirants are not resident in Accra and will be greatly inconvenienced as they may have to return to the Auditor General, pick a form and go through the arduous process of assets declaration before filing their nominations.

But the EC insist it has done no wrong as the issue of assets declaration is a statutory declaration clearly stated on the nomination forms.

Speaking on the matter on Asempa FM’s, Eko Si Sen show Wednesday, the NDC Election 2016 Campaign Coordinator, Kofi Adams stated that the NDC which considers the governance of this country as serious business, did not wait a day to close of nomination to seek clarification.

“We are done with filling the nomination form, we fully understand everything contained on the form. This shows you how organized we are as a political party. We will not wait until a day to close of nomination to rush to the EC offices to seek clarification. Look at the several days that have passed after the NPP picked up their presidential nomination form, and look at when they went to the EC to have things explained to them. It tells you that they are not serious about the governance of this country.”

He added: “We are very ready, what we didn’t understand on the form, we sought clarification the same day we picked it, so it was explained to us early to enable us prepare in advance. God willing, we’ll file our nomination tomorrow.”
